Amusement Parks at Rubbish Dumps

Amusement Parks and Waste Disposals

If you read an earlier post about Tadpoles you may have read the bit about how it’s funny that in Human Systems the waste disposal area and erotic entertainment areas are so close together and linked. That sparked a thought about what it might be like if World Systems mimicked this and had amusement parks at Rubbish Dumps.

I thought it was a strange concept but then thought of Carlucci Land in Happy Valley, next to the Wellington Southern Landfill. Here is a little about it: http://www.carlucciland.co.nz/about.aspx
And here are their future expansion plans: http://www.carlucciland.co.nz/images/CarlucciLand-map.pdf
The current mini golf is set to give way to a large scale theme park!

So a co-habitated relationship between waste and enjoyment, what form would this take and what benefits would each gain from the other?

Waste is smelly, contaminated, old and useful or less, however you choose to look at it. Entertainment is wasteful, loud, ugly or beautiful, large, in your face, consuming and necessary.

Entertainment is a direct attributor to lots of the waste we as people generate. Perhaps a closer link to that carnage is necessary. Imagine a tomb trail through the forgot antiques of yesterday, the forests of plastic utensils created then discarded, the smelly rotting cardboard and fabric objects infused with the food juices thrown in the same waste container.

A rollercoaster or death trail where the ultimate punishment is to be coated in syrup of liquid leeched from the vast rubbish heaps. No getting splashed with fresh water here!

A Treacherous Trail though the stabilised substance of the landfill, deep caves and cavernous holes navigated by an open train. Don’t stick your hands out the edge or a passing rat may take a hold. Don’t make eye contact or a curious cat may jump on behind and traverse the train to your seat. Look closely and see
something you tossed away, hoping no one would see again, let alone you.
